A lorry parked unclaimed for nearly 12 hours on the roadside near Kareli Bus Station in MP’s Narsinghpur district, containing 2.40 lakh doses of ‘Kovaxin’ vaccine worth Rs eight crore. The engine of this lorry was on and the driver is missing.
The ‘Kovaxin’ vaccine was being sent from Hyderabad to Karnal from this vehicle. Narsinghpur SP Vipul Srivastava said that the registration number of this vehicle is TN-06Q6482 and after being parked for about 12 hours on Friday night, it was diverted from here to its destination Karnal (Haryana).
He said that the dose of ‘covaxine’ vaccine was brought from Hyderabad. Srivastava said that on Friday afternoon, police received information that a lorry is standing near Kareli bus stand, about 16 km from the district headquarters of Narsinghpur, whose engine is on and written on it is written by Bharat Biotech Company. The SP said that we contacted the transport company TCI of Gurugram and informed them about the driverless lorry. The company found it standing in Kareli through GPS system and they were also worried when they could not contact its driver.
Srivastava said that after this company arranged for a driver and this lorry left for Karnal at eight o’clock on Friday night. He said that the driver of this lorry, Vikas Mishra, is still missing. We found his mobile phone at a place 16 km from the spot. Srivastava said that the refrigerator was working as the lorry engine was turned on. So I hope the vaccines kept in it will be safe.
Asked if the lorry driver would have been robbed, he said that ecological evidence suggests that the driver may not have been robbed. If robbed, the driver would have been found by now. He may have disappeared due to the ongoing rift in his family. He is a resident of Amethi, Uttar Pradesh and will be between 22 and 25 years of age. Efforts are on to find him.
