Former cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that it was a big mistake for Delhi Capitals to give the last over to Marcus Stoinis during the Royal Challengers Bangalore innings.
Amit Mishra had thrown his three overs till the 11th over during Bangalore’s innings. But Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant did not give the fourth over to the leg-spinner and gave the last over to Stoinis.
Commenting on Delhi’s defeat against Bangalore, Chopra said on his YouTube channel that it was in fact a mistake to give the last over to Marcus
Chopra said, “171 was a big score but there was a big flaw in it as well. Amit Mishra was bowling well. He also dismissed Maxwell. He was not given the fourth over. You put them on hold for an over later. Stoinis made the 20th over and conceded 23 runs in it.
Comentator-turned-cricketer Chopra said that Mishra could have fulfilled his quota earlier and in such a situation, a seam bowler from Delhi Capitals would have thrown the last over of the innings.
Chopra further said, ‘Game, set and match – in the end there was a little difference because you lost the match by just one run. Mishra should have got the bowling done in advance and then you would have had one over left of Awais, Rabada or Ishant. It was Stoinis’ first over in the match and Abbey de Villiers at the other end. Obviously, it was not the right decision.
AB de Villiers scored 23 runs in Stoinis’ last over. It consisted of three sixes. With the help of this over, the Bangalore team was able to cross the 170 mark.
