Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi (Shahid Afridi) believes that playing for the national team has become very easy and players should be selected in the team only after spending a few seasons in domestic cricket. During a function, Afridi took a dig at the policy of selection in the national team for Test and limited overs formats.
He particularly criticized the Pakistan team for changing players and making debuts in the limited overs team.
Afridi said, “Playing for the national team has become so easy whereas playing for the Pakistan team in the past was the highest goal of any professional cricketer.”
Afridi said that it has become so easy to make a place in the Pakistan team that even players with very little experience in domestic cricket are hastily included in the team and then dropped.
The former all-rounder believes that every player should have at least two or three years of domestic cricket experience before being considered for selection in the national team.
Afridi said, ‘Why have we made it so easy for the players to represent the country? It makes me sad to see that a player gets a place in the national team after a good performance in one or two matches in domestic cricket or in the Pakistan Super League.
He said, ‘What is this? You should feed your cricketers in domestic cricket.
Afridi said that at least two to three years of experience should be given to the batsmen and bowlers and only then the selectors should decide on his talent, patience and ability to handle pressure.
