Four years after retiring from the army, two Brigadiers got promotion. He was given the rank of Major General. For this he had to fight in the Supreme Court. He was to be promoted in the army 6 years ago.
Advocate Colonel Inder Sen Singh (Retd) appearing for these two officers in the court said that despite being the only officers of their respective batches, they were not promoted. The profiles of both the officers have also been excellent. There is no negative report against them either. Their performance in the report has been ‘above average’ or excellent.
Inder Sen Singh said, ‘The reason behind not promoting both the officers is even more disturbing. The reason being that both were fulfilling all the necessary qualifications for promotion. Also all the reporting officers had recommended his name for promotion.
The lawyer said that both the officers seem to have not been promoted just because the then army chief considered them “a close man of the previous army chief”. Other officials of the intelligence unit have reportedly earlier also alleged that they suffered because of being “close” to former army chief and now Union minister VK Singh.
Both these army officers had knocked on the doors of the Armed Forces Tribunal separately. But, their petitions were rejected. After this he reached the Supreme Court of the country.
