Eminent Ayurvedacharya and Managing Trustee of Kottakkal Arya Vaidyashala (KAS) Dr PK Warrier passed away on Saturday. Family members gave this information. Warrior celebrated his 100th birthday almost a month ago. KAS sources said that Warrior breathed his last in the afternoon. In his lifetime of a century, he treated thousands of patients around the world. Among those who treated him were former Presidents and former Prime Ministers of India and other countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the death of Dr. PK Warrier. Modi tweeted and said, “Saddened by the demise of Dr PK Warrior. His contribution in popularizing Ayurveda will always be remembered. My condolences to his family and friends.

Governor and Chief Minister expressed grief
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Assembly Speaker MB Rajesh condoled the death of Warrior. The Governor said, “As a physician, he was committed to the scientific discovery of Ayurveda. Warrior will be remembered for his incomparable contribution to the modernization of Ayurveda. As a humanist, he had envisioned good health and dignified life for all in the society. Vijayan said that Warrior was instrumental in bringing Ayurveda to global fame and it is because of his efforts that today this field of medicine has got international recognition. Health Minister Veena George said that we have lost the father of Ayurveda.
Awarded with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan
Warrior was awarded the Padma Shri in 1999 and the Padma Bhushan in 2010. As a physician, Warrier popularized authentic Ayurveda treatment. His birth centenary celebrations were held on June 8. Several services were started at the famous Arya Vaidyashala and Ayurveda Medical College at Kottakkal near Malappuram and became synonymous with Ayurveda decades ago after Dr. Warrier took over the reins of the institution. Home born, Panniyampalli Krishnankutty Warrior (P K Warrior) did his schooling in Kottakkal and joined KAS at the age of 20. He was attracted towards the freedom struggle during the Quit India Movement and left his studies. But later started studying again and became the trustee of KAS at the age of 24.
