The BCCI general body on Saturday approved the resumption of the IPL in the UAE in September. The board has sought one month’s time from the ICC to take a final decision on the ICC T20 World Cup so that the situation of the corona epidemic in India can be assessed.
The special meeting of the general body was held online
The official said that all the members want the T20 World Cup to be held in India by the end of October but no decision can be taken on that right now. “BCCI representative President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah will seek time till July 1, after which another SGM will be convened to decide whether the T20 World Cup will be held in India or not,” he said.
“At present the health situation in the country is not such that we can take a final decision,” he said. In a brief statement, the BCCI said that all the members have agreed to restore the IPL in the UAE.
“The BCCI also authorized the office-bearers at the SGM to seek a time frame from the ICC so that a decision can be taken on the T20 World Cup 2021,” the statement said.
A senior member of a state union said that there is also a matter of tax exemption which is being discussed. He said, “ICC wants tax exemption but we have to follow the guidelines of the government. The T20 World Cup in India will benefit all sides but in May you cannot talk about the health situation in October. We need some time.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, ‘Secretary Jay Shah and Vice President Rajeev Shukla will travel to Dubai on June 1 to attend the ICC Board meeting which will also discuss the T20 World Cup to be held in India.
