Before the elections in Nepal, PM Oli changed his tone, said – all misunderstandings with India have gone away

Kathmandu
Acting Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli Has claimed that all the misunderstandings of his country with India have been cleared. He said that both the countries should move forward looking towards the future. Oli said that both love and problems are shared among the neighbours. Many questions are also being raised about the change in Oli’s stand before the upcoming elections in Nepal.

Oli admits to misunderstanding between the two countries
In an interview to the BBC, Oli admitted that once there
was a misunderstanding between the two neighboring countries. However, he did not give any details about it. Oli, in a televised address to the nation last month, had said that pending border issues with India would be settled through diplomatic channels on the basis of historical agreements, maps and factual documents.

Advocating positive relations with India
Oli said that yes, there was a misunderstanding at one time, but now those misunderstandings are cleared. We should not be trapped in the misunderstandings of the past, but we should move forward looking at the future. The 69-year-old Prime Minister of Nepal, who is currently heading a minority government, said that we have to build positive relations. Nepal’s opposition coalition has moved the Supreme Court against President Vidya Devi Bhandari’s unconstitutional move to dissolve the House of Representatives and announce fresh elections on the recommendation of Prime Minister Oli.

Nepal’s special relationship with IndiaTold
Oli said Nepal has a special relationship with India like no other country. Neighbors share both love and problems, he asked. Aren’t there problems between people in Chile and Argentina? Let us tell you that in the newly published political map of Nepal, three Indian regions – Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipulekh – were shown as part of Nepal. After which there was a lot of tension in the relations between India and Nepal.

India opposed the disputed map of Nepal
In response to the new political map of Nepal, India reacted sharply and termed it as a unilateral action. India had warned Kathmandu that claims of artificial expansion of territory would not be accepted. India had said that Nepal’s action violated the agreement reached between the two countries on resolving border issues through dialogue.

Relations between India and Nepal were normalized at the end of 2020
Bilateral exchanges, which stopped after a bitter border dispute, finally resumed in 2020. Several high-level visits took place between the two countries during this period, as India has been emphasizing that it sees itself as the greatest friend and development partner of the Himalayan nation. Nepal’s Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali had visited New Delhi in January this year and discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral relations with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Gyawali had said that both the countries have expressed common commitment to resolve the issues. Gyawali was Nepal’s senior-most politician to visit India amid the souring of relations after the border dispute.

Oli wants different kind of help from India
On the issue of Kovid-19 epidemic, Prime Minister Oli said that India should help differently to control and eliminate the spread of this epidemic as compared to other countries. He said that the borders of Nepal and India are open and India should pay special attention to help Nepal at some places. Oli said that if the Kovid-19 epidemic is controlled in India but not in Nepal, it makes no sense because eventually it will spread.

Oli claims – India did not help as much as it needed
He thanked India for providing vaccines and other health care supplies for the first time but lamented that Nepal did not get the help it needed from India. He said there were high expectations from India and he would like to request Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Oli said that India should extend full cooperation to Nepal in view of the current situation and our friendly relations. This does not mean that we did not get help from India. At this time, Nepal needs vaccination, for which Nepal will request both its neighbors and all countries.

Oli appeals to all countries for vaccine
Regarding the corona vaccine, Oli said that whoever provides vaccines, be it India, China, Britain or America, vaccines should be received. There is no need to politicize this and we thank both our neighbours. On one hand we got 18 lakh vaccines from China and on the other hand India has given 21 lakh vaccines. We got help from both. We are also getting medical equipment from both. So, thanks to both. After 3479 more people were infected with Kovid-19 in Nepal on Sunday, the total cases of infection in the country have crossed six lakhs.
