England captain Joe Root said a clean sweep against two of Test cricket’s top teams, India and New Zealand, would be the best preparation for the Ashes series against arch-rivals Australia later this year.
England are scheduled to play seven Test matches against New Zealand and India before leaving for Australia this winter. They have to play two Test matches against New Zealand first and then face India in five Test matches in August-September.
Root said before the first match against New Zealand, ‘There will be constant discussion this summer about the series
“We have been saying for a long time that we are preparing for that series and it is a prestigious series for an England fan, an England player,” he said.
“It’s definitely very important for us, but our best preparation will be to do well in these seven Tests and win against two of the best teams in the world,” Root said. The Indian team will play the final of the World Test Championship against New Zealand in Southampton from June 18 to 22 before playing a five-match series against England.
