Medical experts believe that being treated in isolation without family members or loved ones being treated for corona infection is affecting patients’ mental health. Experts say that loneliness can cause patients to lose hope of winning the war. According to experts, the presence of family members and regular interactions with them should be an important part of corona virus treatment as it has a therapeutic effect on patients.
Corona patient needs constant help and moral support
Dr. Khandekar said that interacting with a loved one can be effective for patients and this may lead to their desire to be alive even in the most difficult circumstances. He said that the patients who are unable to eat and drink and to go to the toilet, they need constant help and moral support which only a family member can provide. He said that it is not possible for health care workers to take care of every patient privately and provide them help round the clock.
Talking about the issue raised by Dr. Khandekar, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at AIIMS, Dr. Sonakshi Jairwa said that there is a need to adopt a ‘balanced approach’ while treating Kovid-19 patients. He said that every health care institution should formulate policies that are patient / family-centric and that do not impede the effective functioning of hospitals during epidemics.
