- Dr. Rekha Bolin- There is duty in the hospital, so people are hesitant even while talking
- Told that due to duty, positive, elderly parents are also positive
“In the Pak month of Ramadan, along with keeping Roza, I am doing other work besides sampling, checking and checking the corona patients. Wearing a PPE kit makes it difficult at times to keep a Roja. Yet we are not losing courage. Helping patients in every way possible.

While stating this, Nursing Officer Naz Sheikh says that along with all these, we take full care of our children’s safety as well. I go straight to the bathroom as soon as I go home. Let me sanitize the bag first. Then take a bath and spend time with the children. I also cook for them. The children also support me a lot. Naaz Sheikh is currently a nursing officer at Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini.

Two children had become positive
Naz said, “I and my children both became corona positive in August last year.” Husband Mohammad Yunus lives in Saudi Arabia. In such a situation, it became very difficult to handle myself and both the children Arsh (18) and Falak (15). But the doctors and other colleagues of the hospital got a lot of support. Because of this, we managed to win this battle. After recovering, I joined duty again after 15 days. In the month of December, I started working in the flu clinic of Ambedkar Hospital. Corona sampling here, from sample packaging to other responsibilities. For the first time, fear of coming in contact with corona patients was also feared, but gradually this fear was also eradicated.
Have to work extra does not back down
Then in March, my duty started at the flu clinic. I joined this duty without hesitation. This year the new variant of Corona is much more dangerous than last year, yet I did not panic. What will happen to the common people if we only step back. I live on the campus of Ambedkar Hospital. In such a situation, it takes very less time to reach the hospital. I leave the room daily at 8:50 am. I reach the hospital at 9 o’clock. Let me look at the sampling room first. I check if there is a necessary item or not. I also see if the staff gets PPE kit, mask, cap, shoe cover or not. I check everything by whether the PPE kit is worn properly or not. Sometimes I have to work extra for two to three hours, so I do not back down. I also do not leave other staff alone. I ask them to change the PPE kit every four hours.
The biggest challenge is to keep parents safe
When you go for a Kovid test in a private lab, government hospital or dispensary, have you ever thought about the fear and danger of the person who is taking your sample! At that time, a large number of different people’s samples are lying around them. There is a fear all the time that they may not be positive from any sample. Along with them, there is a great danger on the family as well. Dr. Rekha Bhandari lives in an environment of similar fear all the time. Dr. Rekha is working in Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital of Delhi Government and has a duty to take samples. After doing sample duty for 15 consecutive days, the duty of another doctor, nursing staff or lab technician for the other 15 days.
Parents also became Corona positive
Dr. Rekha Bhandari says that she has been doing this duty for a long time and recently she has become positive. Along with him being positive, his parents have also become corona positive. She says that we have to face many challenges while doing duty. Taking samples of people, then keeping them well, transporting them to lab, staying in PPE kit for four to five hours and during this time neither fan nor AC can run. When the PPE kit is removed, the entire body is filled with sweat.
People in the neighborhood did not change their thinking
The biggest problem starts when I go home after duty. There are elderly parents at home. In such a situation, there is the same fear all the time that the parents may not get kovid because of me. Apart from this, the thinking of the people of the neighborhood has not changed even today. They think that since I am a doctor, I take samples of patients, so I may have corona because of them, so they are shying away from talking. Also, due to the situation going on at the moment, parents also remain afraid of my duty. The situation is that I live in a room separate from my parents most of the time.
Helping people, thinking is nice
The entrances of the house are also different so that there is no threat to the parents but even after taking so much care, they have recently become Kovid positive. I am also currently corona positive and in home isolation. In such a situation, now all three of us are in isolation in different rooms. There is no doubt that there is a lot of danger in duty, but it is also nice to think that in this difficult time we are also supporting some good work.
