Court did not listen to Olympic medalist wrestler Sushil Kumar, dismissed the petition seeking special food and supplements

Digital Desk, New Delhi. A Delhi court on Wednesday dismissed the plea of Olympic medalist wrestler Sushil Kumar, accused in a murder case, seeking special food and supplements in jail. The court dismissed Sushil Kumar’s plea saying that the special food and supplement was not an essential need or necessity.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Satveer Singh Lamba said, “Special food and supplements only appear to be the will of the accused and in no way is an essential need or necessity.” The judge said that it is clear that the basic needs of

the accused in jail should be taken care of as per the provisions of the Delhi Jail Rules, 2018. The court said in its order, it is a well established law that all persons are equal in the eyes of law irrespective of their caste, religion, sex, class etc. Right to equality is a basic feature of the Indian Constitution.

Let us inform that Sushil Kumar had moved the Rohini court demanding special food, supplements and exercise bands in the jail. The petition said that these supplements like Isolate Whey Protein, Omega-3 Capsules, Joint Capsules, Pre-Workout C4, Multivitamins etc. are absolutely essential to maintain their health and performance. He said the denial of these basic necessities would have a huge impact on his career, which depends on his physical strength and physique.

The jail authorities, in their reply to the court, had earlier said that Kumar’s medical condition did not require food supplements or extra protein diet. Sushil’s advocate Pradeep Rana told the court that his client is entitled to the food supplement as he is an unconvicted criminal prisoner and has sought it at personal cost.

The wrestler is currently lodged in Delhi’s Mandoli jail in connection with the alleged murder of Sagar Dhankhar at Chhatrasal Stadium over a property dispute. The police have called Sushil the “main accused and mastermind” of the murder. The police also claimed to have electronic evidence against Sushil. In the electronic evidence, Sushil Kumar and his associates can be seen beating Dhankhar.
