A half-century between openers Rituraj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis and a century partnership between the two saw the Chennai Super Kings register their fifth consecutive win over Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday.
The Sunrisers are on the final spot with two points after their fifth defeat in six matches. Chasing the Sunrisers’ target of 172, the Super Kings shared a 129-run first wicket partnership between Gaikwad (75 off 44 balls, 12 fours) and du Plessis (56 off 38 balls, six fours, one six). Thanks to this, he scored an easy win by scoring 173 runs for three wickets in 18.3 overs.
For Sunrisers, Manish Pandey scored a 61-run stand for the second wicket with Warner (57 off 55 balls, three fours, two sixes) in addition to a 61-run stand off 46 balls with five fours and a six, helping the team to three Was successful in scoring 171 runs on the wicket. CSK’s strong start
The Super Kings, chasing down the target, got a stormy start by du Plessis and the Gaekwad duo. Du Plessis targeted Khalil Ahmed, hitting him with three fours. Gaikwad also hit fours on Sandeep Sharma and Siddharth Kaul. The Super Kings team managed to score 50 runs without losing wickets in the power play. Gaikwad hit Jagdish Suchit for two fours while du Plessis hit a four and a six in this spinner’s over.
Du Plessis and Rituraj’s Fifty
Du Plessis completed a 32-ball half-century with two runs off Kaul’s ball and took the team’s score to 100 runs in the 11th over. Gaikwad hit Suchit three consecutive fours in the next over and during this period he completed a half-century in 36 balls. However, he was lucky in the next over of Rashid Khan (three wickets for 36 runs) while wicketkeeper Johnny Bairstow failed to catch his catch. Rashid’s strike, but could not stop CSK’s victory
Moeen Ali (15) opened the account with four boundaries on Khalil and then hit two fours on Rashid, but caught the same leg-spinner’s ball in the air and caught Jadhav. Rashid also bowled du Plessis on the next ball. The Super Kings needed 24 runs to win in the final five overs and Suresh Raina (17 not out) and Ravindra Jadeja (07 not out) gave the team an easy lead.
Bairstow hurried out
Earlier, Warner won the toss and decided to bat first. Johnny Bairstow was lucky on the second ball of Deepak Chahar’s innings when his catch was dropped by wicketkeeper captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Bairstow and Warner hit Chahar in the third over. Bairstow, however, was caught by Chahar in an attempt to play a big shot off the ball of Sam Karan (one wicket for 30 runs). He scored seven runs. Pandey opened the account with a four on Chahar and then got Karan’s ball to the boundary. Sunrisers scored 39 runs for one wicket in the power play.
Warner and Manish Pandey’s Fifty
Pandey and Warner failed to add to the run pace. Pandey hit the first six of the innings on Moin Ali in the 10th over. Pandey hit a four off Shardul Thakur after hitting a four off Ravindra Jadeja and then completing a half-century in 35 balls with a single. The century of the Sunrisers’ runs was completed in the 14th over. Warner hit his first six off Angidi (two for 35) and then completed his 50th IPL half-century off 50 balls with a six over Jadeja.
Warner, however, caught Jadeja in an attempt to play a big shot off Angidi’s ball. Pandey hit a four on Angidi but du Plessis took a brilliant catch at the boundary in an attempt to play another big shot. Williamson hit three fours and six off Thakur’s successive balls to take the team’s score to 150 runs in the 19th over. Jadhav hit a four and a six over Karan for the last two balls of the innings.
