Delhi topped Punjab Kings by seven wickets in the 29th match of the 14th season of the IPL played at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Sunday, thanks to a brilliant innings of opener Shikhar Dhawan (69 not out).
Mayank said after the match, ‘Rahul is going for surgery, he will come back. We were 10 runs behind on that wicket and after that powerplay we were left behind. One batter had to bat till the end and today was my day.
Delhi won the toss and bowled first to restrict Punjab to 166 for six and then hit the target, losing three wickets in 17.4 overs. This is Delhi’s sixth win in 8 matches and the team has now reached the top of the table with 12 points. Punjab have suffered their fifth defeat in eight matches and the team is at number six with six points.
Mayank further said, ‘We could not make as much as we wanted to win runs in the middle overs. It would have been great pleasure to have got two marks. Now we have to forget this defeat and return to the next match. Harpreet’s bowling is going very well. Will have to do better in unison. ‘
