Delhi Oxygen Crisis: People moving to the mountains on not getting oxygen beds in Delhi-NCR

New Delhi
In the absence of medical facilities, people have been migrating to Delhi and other metros from the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, but the corona epidemic is such that people are now looking for a hospital bed from Delhi to far flung areas of Uttarakhand. There is such a crisis of medical oxygen in Delhi that many patients are dying in hospitals due to its absence.

When Rita Sharma, wife of Rakesh Sharma, living in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi, could not get an oxygen bed in any hospital despite all the efforts in
Delhi-NCR, she went to a private hospital in Champawat, Uttarakhand. However, by the time he reached here, Rita Sharma’s condition deteriorated so much that he succumbed hours after being put on ventilator.

According to the hospital authority, 56-year-old Rita Sharma was brought to the hospital late on Wednesday night. His oxygen level was steadily falling. Even after being put on ventilator, his condition did not improve and he succumbed after two hours.

The hospital authority said that after searching online, Rakesh Sharma’s family spoke at the hospital and upon finding out the availability of oxygen beds, he brought his patient to Champawat. There are calls from Delhi-NCR to inquire about the availability of oxygen beds in the hospital.

Under normal circumstances, serious patients have been referred to Delhi or Dehradun from far off areas like Pithoragarh, Champawat in Uttarakhand. Due to lack of medical facilities, people have been taking to the streets as well and this is also a big reason for migrating from the mountains. But in the havoc created in Delhi-NCR in the havoc of Corona, the medical facilities of the mountains also look like a ray of hope.

However, in Uttarakhand, corona cases are increasing steadily. On Friday, 5654 new cases of corona were reported in Uttarakhand and 122 deaths occurred. The number of active cases has increased to 55886 in Uttarakhand and so far 2624 people have died from Corona. The investigation report of 32399 people is pending now.
