The desire to teach children in English medium ranges from common man to special. The increasing number of children studying in English medium in the schools of the country testifies to this.
In the last one year, there has been a rapid increase in the number of children studying in English medium in many states of the country. Today 26% of the country’s children i.e. more than a quarter of the children are studying in English medium schools. In this case, Haryana has seen the highest increase of 23%. Parents of 59% children in Delhi have got their children enrolled in English medium schools.
The graph of Haryana English Medium is changing
There is a different view of English in Haryana. It is generally believed that the people of Haryana run away from English. This picture of the state is slowly changing now. In Haryana, where in the year 2014-15, only 27% children were studying in English medium, now this number has increased to 50.8%. After Haryana, Telangana (21.7%) has seen the fastest increase in the number of English medium students. In Telangana, the number of children studying in English medium has increased to 73.8%.
J&K top among those studying in English medium
In terms of number of children studying in English medium, Jammu and Kashmir is at number one. Here 100% children study in English medium. After this the second number is from Telangana. In Telangana, where 73% children study in English medium, the number of children studying in Telugu medium is 23.7%. Kerala (64.5%) is third in the list, Andhra Pradesh (63%) is fourth and Delhi (59%) is fifth.
Most of the studies being done through Hindi medium
Even though about one third of the children of the country are studying in English medium but Hindi is still the most widely studied medium. At present, 42 percent of the children in the country are studying through Hindi medium. It is followed by English second and then Bengali and Marathi at third and fourth place respectively. 6.7% of children in the country study in Bengali medium. At the same time, the total children studying in Marathi medium is 5.6%.
