European regulators recommend Pfizer Coronavirus Vaccine for children aged 12 to 15

Berlin
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) on Friday recommended the introduction of anti-coronavirus vaccines developed by Pfizer and BioNTech to children aged 12 to 15 years. This decision is opening the way for the vaccine to be given to children for the first time in the continent during the epidemic.

The head of the vaccine review EMA, Marco Cavalleri, said the EU regulator had received the necessary data to approve the use of the vaccine for children and adolescents and found it to be extremely effective against COVID-19.

He said that this

decision needs to be stamped by the European Commission and the regulators of different countries. Earlier regulators in Canada and the US took a similar decision last month. Developed countries are working towards getting more and more of their population vaccinated.

Pfizer-BioNtech’s vaccine was first approved in the European Union of 27 countries and licensed for use in December to people 16 years of age and older.

The EMA’s recommendation to approve vaccination for children is based on studies in more than 2,000 adolescents in the US. The study found the vaccine to be safe and effective. Researchers will monitor the long-term safety of vaccine supplements in children for the next two years.
