Not visible from the ground
This figure remained invisible for a long time among the desert. It was difficult to see it from the ground level. Interestingly, it looks very clean from space and looks like a giant eye. That is why it has been given this name. It was also used as a navigation landmark and Astronauts took a lot of photographs. Due to its shape and texture, it has been believed for a long time that it was formed due to the collision of a meteorite.
Why are the colors different?
Now geologists believe that it is quite symmetrical. It is considered to be a geological dome whose upper layers have been destroyed by exposure to air and water. It also has some of the best silica-filled hydrothermal features. For this reason, it was considered necessary to study more about its origin by keeping it safe. According to reports, this dome is made of different types of rocks and due to the different effect of wind and water on each rock, such a shape has emerged. Where there was not much effect, the blue and purple parts are upward and where the erosion is high, the yellow color becomes darker.
Rocks are different
The surrounding dark area is a plateau of sedimentary rocks 200 meters above the desert sand. The outer part is 485 meters above sea level. After all the studies, the geologists have found that the rocks in its center are much older than the outer rocks. On the inside are rheolitic vulcanic rocks, gabbros, carbonatites, and kimberlites. The outer part is made up of igneous and sedimentary rocks. There are also some cracks in the exterior.
