Slovenia’s unseeded tennis player Tamara Zidansek on Tuesday became the first woman from her country to reach the last four of a Grand Slam by defeating Paula Badosa of Spain in the quarterfinals of the French Open. Zidansek had not progressed past the second round at any Grand Slam before this French Open. Germany’s Alexander Zverev has reached the semi-finals of the French Open for the first time and for the third time in any Grand Slam.
World ranking 85th-ranked Zidansek defeated Badosa 7-5, 4-6, 8-6 in a close match
When Zidansek took a 6-5 lead in the third and deciding set, Badosa angrily slammed his racket to the ground. He made a comeback but Zidansek saved three break points to take a 7-6 lead. In the next game, he won the match on the strength of a brilliant forehand. The 23-year-old had defeated seventh seed Bianca Andreescu in the first round of the tournament.
