Top seeds Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal advanced to the fourth round of the French Open tennis Grand Slam with easy victories while fifth seed Elina Svitolina suffered an upset in the women’s section. Nadal, trying to win a record 13th French Open title, defeated Cameron Nouri 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 to enter Round 16 of the 50th Grand Slam. He will now face 19-year-old Janic Sinner of Italy.
Nadal and Federer have both won 20 trophies each. Djokovic did not face a single break point against Berankis, scoring 30 winners and making just 18 unforced mistakes. Djokovic will now face 19-year-old Lorenzo Musetti of Italy for a place in the quarterfinals. In the women’s section, Kenin also managed to make it to the next round. Number four Kenin is now the top seed in the women’s draw.
Kenin defeated compatriot Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 to reach the fourth round of Roland Garros for the third year in a row. Last year, she was the runner-up of the French Open after losing to Inga Sviatec in October. Fifth seed Svitolina suffered an upset after losing 3-6, 2-6 to Barbara Krajsikova. Eighth seed Svyatek beat Annette Kontavet 7-6 6-0 to face Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk.
Australian Open 2020 champion Kenin made 48 winners while Pegula could do so only 18 times. Kenin made 10 double faults and broke her serve five times but eventually managed to save her four service games to win. Former US runner-up Sloane Stephens defeated 18th seed Karolina Muchova 6-3, 7-5 in the fourth round. Stephens was defeated in the final of the 2018 Roland Garros. He won his only Grand Slam title a year ago at the US Open. She will now face Krjesikova.
