ICC is considering increasing the number of teams to 20 in T20 World Cup: Report

New Delhi
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly considering expanding the T20 World Cup to 20 teams. Currently 16 teams participate in this global event.

According to a report by Cricinfo, the 2021 tournament, which is currently scheduled to be held in India, will remain unchanged in terms of the number of teams. The ICC can number 20 teams from the 2024 edition.

Additionally, there is also speculation on the possibility of the ICC expanding the number of teams participating in the 50-over World Cup. In 2019, the World

Cup was reduced from 14 to 10 teams.

However, now there is talk of getting 14 teams back. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in October-November, but there is an uncertainty about hosting the tournament due to the deadly second wave of Kovid-19 in India. The epidemic indefinitely postponed the Indian Premier League (IPL) last week. The United Arab Emirates has been retained as a standby venue for the World Cup.
