IMD Weather Monsoon Update: Monsoon will be normal in north-south and above normal in central India.


New Delhi
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday that the southwest monsoon is expected to be normal in north and south India, higher than normal in central India and below normal in east and northeast India. Releasing his second forecast for Southwest Monsoon 2021, IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that the country is forecast to have a normal monsoon in June, which is also the sowing season.

Monsoon will be normal
He said that overall this year the monsoon is expected to be normal throughout the country.
“We are expecting a good monsoon which will help the agriculture sector,” Mahapatra said in an online briefing. He said, ‘Quantitatively, the monsoon rainfall in the country is likely to be 101 percent of the long-term average (LPA). Which may have an ideal error of four percent more or less. ‘

There will be more rain than usual
Monsoon is considered normal in the range of 96 to 104 percent of LPA. The LPA of monsoon rainfall across the country for the period 1961-2010 is 88 centimeters. Mahapatra said that 40 percent chance of normal rainfall, 22 percent chance of above normal rainfall, 12 percent chance of excessive rainfall and 18 percent probability of below normal rainfall.
