Pakistan, which is engaged in all-round encirclement of India, has now started slamming the Central Asian country of Tajikistan. To please Tajikistan President Emomali Rahman, who is on an official visit to Pakistan, Imran Khan sent his JF-17 fighter aircraft to welcome him. This is the same Tajikistan
Pakistani JF-17 fighter jets took the Tajikistan President’s plane into their security cordon as per ritual when it entered Pakistani airspace. Pakistan only welcomes heads of state of those countries with which Pakistan either has close ties or wants to make it. During the two-day visit of the President of Tajikistan, Pakistan signed a defense agreement with him. Under this, he will sell indigenously manufactured weapons to this Central Asian country.
Tajikistan will buy arms from Pakistan
Earlier, Rahman, who arrived in Islamabad, was received at the Prime Minister’s residence, where he was given a guard of honour. “It is very important to improve our defense ties,” Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said after meeting with the President of Tajikistan. Khan said they “discussed and signed MoUs on meeting Tajikistan’s needs for weapons manufactured by Pakistan”. The Pak PM said that for better bilateral relations between Pakistan and Tajikistan, peace in Afghanistan is necessary.
This visit of the President of Tajikistan and the arms deal is very important for India. In fact, it has a 1,400 km long border with Tajikistan and Afghanistan and it is of great geo-strategic importance for India. India has been providing military assistance to it under counter-terrorism cooperation. India has also developed Ayani airbase near Dushanbe. This airbase is very important to keep an eye on China and Pakistan.
India-Tajikistan friendship on the initiative of Vajpayee
India’s friendship with Tajikistan intensified when the US was attacked in 2001. In response, America dropped its army in Afghanistan. At that time Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of India and he decided to strengthen friendship with Tajikistan. After this, the current National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in the Vajpayee government started the presence of the Indian Army in Tajikistan.
This was the time when the US and its allies were also looking for an air base that would move from Pakistan to Afghanistan. At that time, India was running a hospital in Farkhor, Tajikistan, near the border with Afghanistan. Afghan Tajik leader Ahmed Shah Masood was treated in this hospital. He was badly injured in the Taliban attack. Indian Army doctors could not save him.
India decided to build Ayni airbase
At the same time, India wanted to convert Ayani into a military base. After this the Kargil war happened and then India decided to build Ayni airbase. In the Kargil war, it emerged that we need to increase intelligence surveillance and for this the Aviation Research Center of RAW will have to be strengthened. For this reason, India had expressed its desire to redevelop this base in the year 2018 but there is not much information about what happened next. However, there are still 150 Indian military officers present there.
Military relations between India and Tajikistan at Ayni Air Base have been going on for the last 13 years. India spent about $ 70 million from 2002 to 2010 to renovate and modernize this air base. India not only sent defense equipment here, but also extended the runway to 3,200 meters. Pakistan gets tensed due to deployment of Indian Army in Tajikistan or Afghanistan. He fears that India may open another front to attack Pakistan. It is believed that for this reason he is now putting strings on Tajikistan.
