He said, ‘Mahi bhai has always helped me. I was not able to score runs in the beginning of IPL. I didn’t lose faith and kept on opening the innings. The confidence that Mahi bhai showed in me helped me a lot.

Gaikwad also shared the gurumantra that Mahendra Singh Dhoni shared with him. Dhoni had told him what it takes to become a successful cricketer. The 24-year-old said that Dhoni had told him to always focus on the quality of the ball and not the opposition on the field. Gaekwad wants to perform as cool as Dhoni on the Sri Lanka tour.

He said, ‘Mahi bhai always played quietly. You get success by playing according to the quality of the ball. The opposition team will try to harass you in many ways. Would like to divert your attention. Mahi bhai advised me not to fall into this trap. His advice will be of great help to me.
