Digital Desk, Lucknow. When it comes to the strength of BJP, the names of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Bajpai and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani will never be forgotten. But there is another name in this list. This is the name of Kalyan Singh, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. In the politics of Uttar Pradesh, Kalyan Singh is not just a chapter but a date which will never be erased.
The CM who strengthened the foundation of BJP
Kalyan Singh was the first Chief Minister from BJP in Uttar Pradesh. Which will always be remembered forever for great reasons. One case is that which changed the politics of entire UP. It would not be wrong to say that if Kalyan does not gather courage, then the dominance of BJP is not visible in the whole of UP. Let’s start with 1991. With the beginning of the 90s, the politics of UP started changing. The BJP government was formed in June 1991. The history of becoming the first Chief Minister of BJP in Uttar Pradesh is recorded in the name of Kalyan Singh. And then history went on being made. The structure of Babri Masjid was demolished during the tenure of Chief Minister of Kalyan Singh. Not only Uttar Pradesh but the whole country cannot forget this day. However, Kalyan Singh bore the brunt and resigned from the post of Chief Minister. The chair went but BJP got stronger. However, after this, Kalyan Singh became the Chief Minister again in 1997. And remained in this position for almost two years.
The chair was snatched at half past ten, got it back in the morning
This interesting incident is also associated with Kalyan Singh. His second term was also not very easy for him. On 21 February 1998, Kalyan Singh was sacked by the Governor. The decision of the then Governor Romesh Bhandari surprised everyone. The Governor administered the oath of Chief Minister to Jagdambika Pal at 10.30 pm. Pal Kalyan Singh was a minister in the cabinet itself. But he was accused of tying up with Congress and occupying the CM’s chair. Atal Bihari Bajpayee opened a front against this decision of the Governor. He sat on a hunger strike. The matter reached the High Court in the night itself. The court stayed the governor’s decision. The chair which was snatched in the night, Kalyan Singh got it back in the morning due to Atalji’s fast.
Bad things in BJP
Kalyan Singh did so much for BJP. Despite this, his relations with the BJP got strained. In 1999, due to some differences, Kalyan Singh left the BJP and formed the Rashtriya Kranti Party. After this, he fought the 2002 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections from his new party but could not do much wonders. So in 2004, on the request of Atalji, he again returned to the BJP. But after his return, he could not get the power he deserved. After this, the process of coming and going in BJP continued.
