Controversy started over water
The border dispute between the two countries is quite old. After separating from the Soviet Union, there are many areas between these two countries where there is no permanent demarcation. Both the countries claim these areas, due to which many clashes have taken place in the past. This time the dispute was so serious that both countries have even deployed additional troops.

A round of accusation and counter-attack on each other continues
Both countries lay claim to a reservoir and pumping station located on the Isfaara River. Residents of both sides hurled stones at each other before clashes escalated. After which the security forces opened fire. Kyrgyzstan’s State National Security Committee has accused Tajikistan of stealing water from this reservoir. At the same time, Tajikistan said that this facility belongs to them and they accused Kyrgyzstan’s army of firing.

Both countries active on ceasefire
The foreign ministries of the two countries are constantly in talks amid growing tension on the border. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have issued a statement saying that they have withdrawn additional troops from the border after mutual talks. However, a Kyrgyzstan government source said they feared they could lose the area permanently by retreating.

Border villages were evacuated
It is being told that the Tajikistan army fired mortar at the Kyrgyz border outpost following a dispute over a pond. After which Kyrgyzstan retaliated and captured a border post of Tajikistan. Seeing tensions escalated, both countries evacuated many villages around the border.
