In the by-election, the state’s Tourism Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Hafeezul Hasan Ansari defeated his nearest rival Ganga Narayan Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by 5 thousand 292 votes. Soon after the election results, Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a press conference and thanked the people of Madhupur. He also congratulated the TMC victory in West Bengal.
JMM wins in the last three rounds
The counting of votes for the Madhupur Assembly by-election in Deoghar began at 8 am amid tight security. BJP candidates were leading in the first 5 rounds, but JMM candidates took the lead from the sixth round. After this, BJP candidates continued to move forward almost all day. But in the final three rounds, the JMM candidate took a decisive lead and won.
Nota ranked third in the Madhupur by-election
The JMM candidate got 110783 votes in the by-election, while the BJP candidate got 105491 votes. Nota remained in third place. Nota was used by 5121 voters. Independent Ashok Kumar Thakur received 3921 votes. At the same time, Uttam Kumar Yadav got 1999, Kishan Kumar Bathwal got 1032 and Rajendra Kumar got 2409 votes.
The seat was vacant after the death of Haji Hussain Ansari
Voting for the Madhupur by-election was held on 17 April. There was 71.6 percent voting. JMM candidate Haji Hussain Ansari won from Madhupur seat in the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections. He became the Minister of Minority Welfare in the Hemant government. He was also cured after being infected by Corona, but died on 3 October 2020. The seat was vacant since then. Haji Hussain was Ansari’s son and tourism minister and Hafeezul Hasan JMM candidate in the by-election. For the last two decades, there has been a direct contest between the JMM and the BJP on the Madhupur assembly seat.
