Harare| A day after scoring an unbeaten 150 in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh batsman Mahmudullah has expressed his desire not to play Test cricket further with his teammates. According to a Cricbuzz report, Mahmudullah’s announcement has taken his teammates and team management by surprise.
A top-ranked Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official told Cricbuzz, “Yes, Mahmudullah has told us that he doesn’t want to play Test cricket after this match. But he hasn’t told us anything officially and we are looking into it.” Whether he is taking any decision out of emotion or not.
Mahmudullah himself admitted that he was happy with the opportunity, while he also said that it was difficult for him to adjust mentally to Test cricket.
Mahmudullah’s move comes as a surprise as he has given the nod to play in all three formats. Akram Khan, chairman of BCB Cricket Operations, recently stated that all national contract prospects had given approval for this.
BCB president Nazmul Hassan said, “Nobody has said anything to me officially. However, one told me that Mahmudullah does not want to play Test cricket further after the ongoing one-off Test against Zimbabwe and he left the dressing room. I’ve told this to everyone.”
