This step has been taken after a video of a dog being tortured in this center went viral. This animal care center was established in 1980. According to the centre’s website, it was established in accordance with a will written to Sanjay Gandhi by Mrs. Ruth Cowell of New South Wales, Australia.

A video went viral on social media on July 5. Although it was not clear in the video where it was made, but according to the claims it belonged to the Sanjay Gandhi Animal Centre. In her statement released on Saturday, Maneka Gandhi admitted that the video is from her own centre. At the same time, she also said that seeing this video, she was shaken to the core. Maneka Gandhi said, “This incident has shaken all of us to the core. He said that we have registered an FIR against the employees who carried out the incident and they have also been arrested. The doctor, who was in charge of the section during that time, has also been given notice, although this is not enough.

Maneka Gandhi said that this center will remain closed till the complete overhauling. During this time no new animal rescue will be done and only animals already kept here will be looked after. The BJP MP said that we will prepare this center completely once again. Work will be done on its structure as well as work will also be done regarding the staff. He said that internal policy and mechanism would also be reviewed. Also the entire dog section will be redone.
