Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary raised questions on NITI Aayog’s SDG index, said- The correct picture of Bihar was not presented in the report

The ruckus over Bihar’s poor performance in NITI Aayog’s Sustainable Development Goals Index 2020-21 does not seem to stop. Bihar Education Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has raised questions on the ranking of states in this report released on June 3. Choudhary alleged that the methodology of data collection, its evaluation and presentation is not up to the standards of a developing economy.

Education Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said on Tuesday that the report released
on June 3 did not present a true picture of Bihar. Compared to the last few years, the situation in Bihar has improved on many parameters. If we talk about the overall statistics, the performance of Bihar has improved every year since 2018. Even as per NITI Aayog norms, Bihar has moved from ‘aspirant’ to ‘performer’ category. He said that the commission should adopt a balanced approach for the SDG index.

Bihar is in ‘leading’ category on five parameters this time: Vijay Kumar Choudhary
Vijay Kumar Choudhary said that as per SDG India Index 2021, Bihar has scored 52 out of 100 on different parameters and has come under the ‘Performer’ category. Bihar is in the ‘leading’ category on five parameters this time. It has scored 91 marks in the cleanliness and clean water categories, which is 8 points higher than the national average. According to the SDG dashboard, Bihar has improved in different areas including hunger, health and welfare, education, gender equality, water and sanitation, justice.

Know what else the Education Minister of Bihar said…
The education minister claimed that the state has made remarkable achievements in good health and well-being (SDG3). The entire nation is aware of the work done for gender equality (SGD5) in Bihar, including promotional schemes for girl students and parallel reservations for women. We are also very close to reaching the 100% mark in Quality Education (SGD4). The categories in which the state underperformed include poverty, hunger, gender equality, industry and climate action.
