On This Day: 46 years ago the Indian cricket team won the first ODI on this day, know who was the hero

Today is a very special day for the Indian cricket team. Team India won its first ODI International match on 11 June itself. India’s non-experienced team got a chance to play in the first World Cup held in 1975.

Prior to this, India had played only 2 ODIs against England in the year 1974 and lost in

both. At that time the command of the Indian team was in the hands of Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan. Eight teams participated in the first World Cup. The England team had come out as a strong contender for the title.

In its first match of the 1975 World Cup (1975 World Cup), the Indian team had to face a crushing defeat by 202 runs against England (India vs England). After this, Team India made a tremendous comeback by defeating East Africa in their second match and registered their first victory in One Day International cricket.

At that time 60 overs were bowled in ODI cricket. A bowler could bowl a maximum of 12 overs. In that match, East Africa won the toss and decided to bat first.

Sunil Gavaskar and Engineer lead Team India to victory
Sunil Gavaskar and Farooq Engineer opened for India. Both batted brilliantly and gave India victory in 29.5 overs. Indian team won the match by 10 wickets without losing any wicket. Gavaskar returned after scoring 65 not out and Engineer 54 not out.

West Indies won the World Cup title by defeating England
The Indian team had to face defeat by 4 wickets against New Zealand in the third match. Team India failed to reach the next round. West Indies defeated England by 17 runs in the final to win their first World Cup title.
