Jagannath has also been the former Prime Minister of Mauritius. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Jagannath, who was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award, as the architect of modern Mauritius. Modi had said, “A proud diaspora, he helped build special bilateral ties that would benefit from his legacy.”
