Akash Chopra believes that Kolkata Knight Riders will not miss Pat Cummins much for Kolkata Knight Riders for the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League.
According to reports, Pat Cummins has ruled out the possibility of playing in the remaining matches of IPL 2021. However, he has not given any reason for this. But Cummins is believed to have taken such a decision due to tight international contracts.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Akash Chopra said that the passing of Pat Cummins might be a big loss
Chopra said, ‘KKR already has Lockie Ferguson. And in my opinion, if you have the option of choosing either of the two T20 bowlers, then I would prefer Lockie Ferguson over Cummins. If Lockie is available and he plays then all is well. I don’t think he will miss Pat Cummins more as a bowler.
Cricketer-turned-commentator Chopra said that Pat Cummins’ bowling figures have been very average for the last two seasons of the IPL.
He said, ‘Cummins’ performance has not been that of a great bowler. If we talk about last year, he took 12 wickets in 14 matches. The previous season was played in the UAE and the remaining matches are scheduled to be held there this year as well. His economy was close to 8, which can be called right. This la also he has taken nine wickets in seven matches. He has also proved to be quite expensive. He has bowled at around nine runs per over.
However, Chopra admitted that Pat Cummins has proved his identity as a batsman, which Ferguson might not be able to do. He believes that Ferguson will not be able to contribute as much with the bat.
Chopra said, “His performance as a batsman has been decent.” In the UAE, however, it was not as good. He scored a half-century but his batting average was around 20. This time however he hit a half-century and his batting average was 31. His strike rate was 66.
