Platform ticket rates have been increased at 8 railway stations in Bihar. The Sonpur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) has increased the platform ticket rate from Rs 10 to Rs 50 at eight select stations. Sources said that these stations are Muzaffarpur, Hajipur, Barauni, Khagaria, Sonepur, Begusarai, Mansi and Naugachia. East Central Railway has also said that the increased rates of platform tickets will be applicable only till May 15.

According to sources, the Railway Board has taken these steps in view of the Corona crisis. Corona
virus cases are continuously increasing in Bihar. In such a situation, the number of people at the railway station did not increase, to reduce the congestion on the platform, this decision has been taken in view of this. According to the information, an advisory was issued by the Railway Board to reduce the congestion on the platform, after which the platform ticket rates were increased. Officials hope that people will come to the station and platform less because of the higher price.

An East Central Railway official said that the railway has installed four steam inhaler booths at the coaching depot in Muzaffarpur. This has been done as a precaution so that railway personnel on their duty and especially loco pilots and guards can take advantage of this facility.

Meanwhile, nine out of 716 passengers who reached Patna Junction on Saturday by Lokmanya Tilak-Patna Special Train (03202) got symptoms of corona infection. Sources said he was quarantined at a hotel in the city on behalf of employees of the state health department. Similarly, at least 27 of the more than 200 passengers who reached Sitamarhi in a special train from different places on Friday, were found infected by the doctors at the station. However, an East Central Railway official said that he was allowed to go home after he found no signs of corona.
