Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers on Friday amid fast-growing cases of Corona virus infection in the country. During this time they were informed about the management of the epidemic and the availability of oxygen and medicines. This was the first meeting of the Council of Ministers after the second wave of Corona virus infection
The Union Council of Ministers called the Kovid epidemic a ‘once in a century’ tragedy, calling it a major challenge for the world. The Prime Minister urged the Union Ministers to keep in touch with the people of their region, help them and keep taking their feedback. In the meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister stressed the need to identify issues at the local level and resolve them immediately.
The meeting was held in a digital manner to discuss the situation arising out of the second wave of Kovid-19 in the country. The statement said that the Council of Ministers was informed about steps taken to increase the number of beds, oxygen facilities in hospitals and to address issues related to the availability of oxygen and other essential medicines.
It was told that free food grains and financial assistance to the holders of Jan Dhan account were also discussed during the meeting to help the economically weaker sections. It was informed in the meeting that so far 15 crore anti-Kovid vaccine supplements have been given to the people in the country. It was also mentioned in the meeting that the country has successfully prepared two vaccines and many more claimants of vaccines are going through various stages of approval.
The Council of Ministers also underscored the importance of Kovid friendly conduct – wearing masks, following a six-foot social distance from others, and regular hand-washing. Underlining the participation of the society as an important initiative, the ministers expressed confidence that the country would unite and defeat the epidemic.
At the meeting, NITI Aayog member VK Paul made a presentation on Kovid-19 management. After them, Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Mansukh Mandaviya informed the Council of Ministers about the availability of oxygen and medicine respectively.
The Prime Minister has held several rounds of meetings with the Chief Ministers of the states and top government officials to discuss the status of Kovid-19. He has held talks with pioneers in the pharmaceutical industry, oxygen suppliers, heads of the three armed forces and other dignitaries to tackle the epidemic.
