Tuesday was the second day of the party panel’s meeting with Punjab Congress leaders. According to insiders present in the meeting, Sidhu was also seen attacking the CM in this meeting led by Mallikarjun Kharge. He accused the captain of protecting the Badal family in the Guru Granth Sahib sacrilege and police firing case. He also blamed it for complicating the investigation of the Kotkapura firing case. Apart from Mallikarjun Kharge, this three-member Congress panel included Harish Rawat, in-charge of Punjab and former MP Jai Prakash.
Truth cannot be defeated: Navjot Singh Sidhu
After the meeting, Sidhu said that he had come here on the call of the high command. Talking to the media, Sidhu said, ‘My stand was the same, it is and will remain the same. The democratic power of the people which is going to the government in the form of taxes should be returned to the people. Every citizen should become a shareholder of the development path. Truth can be punished but cannot be defeated. We have to win the truth and defeat the anti-Punjab force.
Recently, Sidhu had openly criticized CM Amarinder Singh as Home Minister in the sacrilege case. There was also a verbal war between the two on this. These days there is a ruckus in the Punjab Congress unit regarding the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib.
Sidhu and Pargat’s aggressive stand against Captain
Ahead of the assembly elections next year, with a panel meeting of 25 Punjab Congress MLAs, Pargat Singh, MLA from Jalandhar Cantt, maintained an aggressive stand. Apart from 25 MLAs, 5 MPs and former Law Minister Ashwini Kumar also met the panel. Pargat Singh said after the meeting that the grievances of the Congress MLAs are based on issues and are yet to be resolved. “No one can say that Amarinder Singh is not in charge. When the command is yours, you have to give it too.’
Pargat Singh said, “Besides sacrilege, there are many issues like drugs and sand mining. I have also written a letter to the CM on this. It all depends on the CM, others also cannot run away from their responsibility. Pargat said that he also expressed concern about the economic condition of Punjab in the meeting.
Rahul Gandhi calls Congress MLAs and gets feedback
The tension of the high command has started increasing over the upheaval in the Punjab Congress. Before the panel meeting, on Saturday, a dozen MLAs were called and took feedback from them. Confirming Rahul’s call, Congress MLA Gurkeerat Kotli said that Captain Amarinder Singh should lead the party in the next elections as well and any change is not in the interest of the party. He had met the panel on Monday.
Similarly, Congress MLA Navtej Singh Cheema said that he said in the meeting that the Congress should give importance to its traditional leaders and not the people from outside. Now on Thursday, there is talk of Captain Amarinder Singh joining the panel meeting and giving his point of view. After that he will submit his report in all the cases.
