Pushkar Singh Dhami will be the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. On Saturday, he was elected the leader of the BJP Legislature Party. A day earlier, Tirath Singh Rawat had resigned from the post of Chief Minister. He is the MLA from Khatima.

Close to Bhagat Singh Koshyari
Dhami is considered close to former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Koshyari is no longer in active politics and is currently the Governor of Maharashtra.
Born in Pithoragarh but Khatima Karmabhoomi
Dhami was born in Kanalichina, Pithoragarh. His father was a subedar in the army. Dhami may be from Pithoragarh but he describes Khatima as his land of work.
From MLA to CM’s chair for the second time
Pushkar Singh Dhami became MLA from Khatima seat for the first time in 2012. He then defeated Devendra Chand of Congress by a margin of around 5 thousand votes. In the 2017 Uttarakhand assembly elections, Dhami won from Khatima for the second time in a row. This time he defeated Bhuvan Chandra Kapri of Congress by a margin of less than 3 thousand. Now he is going to become the 11th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
