The Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi government to take steps to provide protection under the Witness Protection Scheme 2018 to a witness in a murder case involving alleged involvement of Olympic medalist wrestler Sushil Kumar. Justice Suresh K Kait directed the Delhi government to make an application within a week from June 2 before the competent authority for providing protection under the said scheme to a witness in the murder case.
With this direction, the court disposed of a petition filed by the witness for protection. Advocates Ajay Kumar Pipania and Pallavi Pipania appeared for the petitioner. In the petition, the person has alleged that Sushil Kumar had also thrashed him when the incident took place at Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi.
Sushil Kumar and his associates had assaulted Sagar Dhankhar and his two friends Sonu Mahal and Amit Kumar at the stadium on the intervening night of May 4 and 5 over a property dispute. Dhankhar later died. Sushil Kumar was arrested on 23 May.
