Sania Mirza’s son and sister got UK visa, thanked Minister Rijiju by tweeting

New Delhi
Indian tennis star Sania Mirza on Thursday thanked Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and others for their prompt intervention in getting her son and sister’s UK visas cleared. Now both of them can go with him in the tournament organized for the preparation of the Olympics.

The Sports Ministry had sought the intervention of the Ministry of External Affairs a few weeks ago and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Tuesday said that the visas of Sania’s son and sister have been approved.

The 34-year-old six doubles Grand Slam winner took to Twitter to

thank everyone for helping. Sania tweeted, ‘I would like to thank Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju Sir, Indian Embassies in UAE and UK, Sai and the British Government for helping me get visas for my son Izhaan and my sister Anam, so that they can accompany me. Will be able to travel to UK for the tournament. Many thanks to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Responding to Sania’s tweet, Rijiju wished her all the best for the Olympics. Rijiju tweeted, ‘India is proud of your achievements. As you prepare to represent India again in the upcoming Olympics, our best wishes are with you and the entire Indian Olympic contingent.

Sania, who is part of the government’s ‘Target Olympic Podium Scheme’ (TOPS), had got a visa, but her son and his caregiver did not get a visa due to travel restrictions imposed due to rising cases of corona virus in India.
