Sanjay Manjrekar on R Ashwin: Sanjay Manjrekar adamant, said – not Ashwin but these players are included in my list of all-time great players

New Delhi
Former Indian cricket team batsman Sanjay Manjrekar recently said about R Ashwin that he has a little problem with those who call him the greatest bowler of all time.

Manjrekar is being heavily criticized on social media for this statement. In such a situation, Manjrekar, who is currently playing the role of a commentator, defended himself, tweeting, ‘The status of the greatest player of all time deserves the highest praise for any cricketer. Cricketers like Don Bradman, Gary Sobers, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli are the greatest
players of all time in my book. I want to say with respect that Ashwin is not yet among the all-time players.

Ian Chappell told the great
Former Australia great Ian Chappell has termed Ashwin as one of the best Test bowlers of the current era. Chappell said this in the program ‘RunOrder’ of ‘ESPNcricinfo’. However, Manjrekar did not agree to this. Manjrekar questioned Ashwin’s record of overseas grounds.

Manjrekar says spinners like Ravindra Jadeja and more recently Axar Patel have also done well on Indian grounds. On this, Chappell recalled the contribution of West Indies great fast bowler Joel Garner, saying that his number of wickets was less because he had many more excellent bowlers in the team.

Manjrekar said, “I have some problem when people call him (Ashwin) the greatest bowler of all time. The problem with Ashwin is that he hasn’t picked up a five-wicket haul in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) countries. Jadeja has taken almost equal number of wickets in the last four years when you look at his impressive performances on Indian pitches. Patel has taken more wickets than him in the last series against England.

Chappell named Ashwin along with Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Kagiso Rabada among the five best Test bowlers of all time, but his country’s Pat Cummins topped the list. Chappell is also very impressed with the performance of Ishant in the last three years, who has taken 77 wickets in 22 Tests since 2018.
