UN offers help to India
A spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutarares said that the United Nations has offered as much help as possible through its integrated supply chain to India, which is battling the growing cases and deaths of Kovid-19. United Nations Secretary-General’s Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said that UN officials are in touch with Indian officials regarding the situation in India.
United Nations is in contact with India
Haq said that we are in touch at various levels. I am aware that our Chief De Cabinet recently approached the Permanent Representative of India here. Officials of our system are also in contact here in New York and on land. Chief Secretary of the United Nations Secretary-General, Maria Luezza Ribeiro Viotti is in touch with India’s permanent representative at the United Nations TS Thirumurthy regarding the situation of Kovid-19 in India.
UN said – India is strengthening itself
He also mentioned that we have offered assistance from our integrated supply chain, if needed, in the assistance provided by the United Nations. We were told that it is not needed at this time as India has logically strengthened its system to deal with the situation but we are firm on our offer and are willing to do whatever we can to help.
Worried about the burden on India’s health system
The United Nations is ensuring that its international and national personnel are protected in India so that India’s health system is not burdened. Fortunately, there have been very few cases (of infection) in our personnel. In such a situation, we believe that we have succeeded in our endeavor and are making sure that we do not increase the pressure on the health system which is already facing the challenge.
