Sheldon Jackson’s ‘heart’ not selected for Sri Lanka tour

New Delhi
Saurashtra batsman Sheldon Jackson is a big name in Indian domestic cricket. He was not selected in the squad for the series against Sri Lanka in July. This series is starting from 13th July. The Indian team will play three One Day Internationals and as many T20 matches there.

On Thursday 10 June, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the 20-man squad. In this team, the selectors have given chances to most of the young players.

Shikhar Dhawan has been made the captain

of this team while Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the vice-captain. An India national team will be present for the Test series in England. Meanwhile, the second team will go on a tour of Sri Lanka.

Jackson feels he should have been a part of the limited overs series for Sri Lanka. The 34-year-old shared a ‘broken heart’ emoticon after the team was announced. Through this, he has expressed his sadness and disappointment.

Jackson is one of the four players to have scored more than 750 runs in a single Ranji Trophy season. However, they have been ignored many times. Not only this, he was not even selected for India’s A team.

Jackson told Cricket Nextel, ‘I am 34 years old. If I am playing better than any 22-23 year old player then where is it written in the rules of the game that I am not fit to be selected in the national team? Who are those people who decide you, on what basis do they decide you. Ranji score? fitness?’

He said, ‘If you are scoring 800-900 runs in two-three seasons in a row, it means you have to be fit. Otherwise you will not be able to do this consistently. So how will you be judged? How many times have I heard that ‘he is over 30 years old.’ Where is it written that you cannot be chosen? And who are those people who are taking away your rights from you.’

In 76 first-class matches, 60 List A and 59 T20s, he has scored 5634, 2096 and 1240 runs respectively.
