- Kapil Dev said Shastri is doing well
- Rahul Dravid is on Sri Lanka tour with India team
- Shastri’s contract is ending after this year’s T20 World Cup
- News of making Rahul Dravid the full time coach of Team India
Former India captain Kapil Dev believes that if Ravi Shastri is producing good results, then there is no reason to remove him from the post of head coach of the Indian cricket team. Shastri’s contract is set to expire after the T20 World Cup to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in October-November. His continuation in this post also depends on whether he wants to apply again or not.
There is speculation that the BCCI may appoint the current National Cricket Academy chief Rahul Dravid as the head coach, who is currently on a tour of Sri Lanka with the team for the limited overs series. Huh .
Kapil told ‘ABP News’, ‘I don’t think there is a need to talk about it now. Let us see how the performance in Sri Lanka pans out.
“There is no harm in preparing a new coach. But if Ravi Shastri is doing well then there is no reason to remove him. This creates unnecessary pressure on the coaches and players.
India won the Test series twice in Australia under Shastri’s coach. The team reached the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup and the final of the World Test Championship where it was defeated by New Zealand.
The Indian team, led by Virat Kohli, will play a five-Test series in England, while the team will play a limited overs series in Sri Lanka under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan.
Kapil said, ‘India has a huge pool of players. If the players get a chance and India can win by fielding two different teams in England and Sri Lanka, what better than that.
