South China Sea: Malaysia fired fighter jets in response to Chinese Air Force planes

Kuala Lumpur
There has been a tension-like situation between China and Malaysia over infiltration in airspace. Malaysia on Monday grounded its fighter jets after intercepting Chinese Airforce transport planes. After this, China has clarified on Wednesday that its aircraft were doing routine training. This incident is above Borneo in the South China Sea where there is a dispute between the two countries regarding the claim.

China told routine training
Malaysia’s foreign minister alleged that Chinese planes had infiltrated. He said the government would file a complaint with China and
summon the Chinese ambassador. However, a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Kuala Lumpur said that these activities were part of the routine flight of the Chinese Air Force and did not target any country. “Chinese military aircraft are free to fly in the respective airspace under relevant international law,” he said. The spokesperson further said that these aircraft did not enter the airspace of any country.

Malaysia’s Foreign Minister
According to the Malaysian Air Force, the planes reached 60 nautical miles from the Malaysian side of Borneo and did not respond to contact attempts. On this Malaysia sent its fighter jets. These planes went back before entering Malaysian airspace. At the same time, the country’s Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussain says that these planes came in the country’s maritime zone and called it a violation of Malaysia’s airspace and dominance.

dispute in the South China Sea
It is not the only country that has disputes with China over the South China Sea. China has created an atmosphere of military tension regarding many countries and islands. Till now relations with Malaysia had not seen much strain. China is often in conflict with Vietnam, the Philippines, Brune and Taiwan. At the same time, America has also stationed its warships here to prove the international right to freedom of navigation.
