Thiruvananthapuram| Olympian KT. Irfan will be seen in Indian colors in the 20 km race walk event at the Tokyo Olympics starting July 23.
Although 31-year-old Irfan had also participated in the Rio Olympics in 2016, he had to be ruled out due to a hamstring injury. Four years before that, he had finished 10th at the 2012 London Olympics and recorded his best time of one hour, 20 minutes and 21 seconds.
He won a bronze medal at the 2017 Asian Race-Walking Championships.
Sajan Prakash, 27, will be seen in the 200m butterfly race event at the Olympic swimming pool. Prakash had recently qualified in a qualification event in Italy with a timing of 1:56.38.
This will be the swimmer’s second visit to the country. He finished 28th in Rio in 2016.
26-year-old Alex Antony will take part in the mixed 4x400m relay with a timing of 47.83s at the national trials organized by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).
Former India hockey captain PR Sreejesh will head the goalpost for the Indian hockey team. This will be the 33-year-old’s third Olympics after the 2012 and 2016 Games.
NN Tom will represent the country in the mixed 4x400m relay with a personal best of 45.75s in the 400m.
26-year-old MA Yahia will represent India in the mixed 4x400m relay at the Tokyo Olympics. He holds a national record of 45.21 s in the 400m and competed in the men’s 400m and 4×400 relay races at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
22-year-old Murali Sreeshankar will represent India in the long jump. She qualified for the Federation Cup in Patiala with a jump of 8.26m, which earned her a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics and a national record. This is the 11th best jump in the world this season.
Similarly, 24-year-old JM Pillyal will represent India in the men’s 400m hurdles. Although he failed to break the 48.90 qualifying mark but still managed to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics through the world ranking quota, with 14 spots available.
