T20 World Cup is set to be out of India, preparations have also started, claims ICC official


New Delhi
The T20 World Cup to be held in India in October-November is set to be shifted to UAE and Oman. In fact, the BCCI has internally referred to the ICC the difficult situation due to COVID-19 in the country. The UAE was always the first back-up option, with Oman’s capital Muscat being added as the fourth venue in addition to Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah for the tournament starting in the last week of October.

A senior board official aware of developments in the ICC Board, on the condition of anonymity, told

PTI, “Yes, the BCCI has sought four weeks’ time to formally take a final decision during the ICC Board meeting, but internally. Obviously, they have stated that they would like to keep the hosting rights and that the tournament being held in UAE and Oman will not matter.

He added that Muscat has been specially roped in for the preliminary round of the 16-team competition, giving three grounds in the UAE enough time to freshen up after 31 IPL games. If the IPL gets over by October 10, the UAE leg of the World T20 could begin in November. This will give 3 weeks time to prepare the pitches.

Most of the ICC board members believe that India are trying to pass the time as they take stock of the situation at a time when it is very difficult to predict how things will turn out in October-November. The official says- If you think about it practically, India is now reporting more than 120,000 Kovid-19 cases which is close to a third of what was being reported at the end of April and the beginning of this month. .
