Former chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar believes India have a great team under Virat Kohli’s captaincy for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand.
Former Team India captain Vengsarkar told Khaleej Time, ‘If you compare the Indian team with the New Zealand team, then India’s team looks better here if you compare the player to every player. There is certainly no doubt that Trent Boult is a world class bowler and Kane Williamson a world class batsman. But India is a team doing well in every field.
The Indian team is currently at the top of the ICC Test rankings while New Zealand is at number two. Even before the start of the WTC final, there is speculation that the conditions in Southampton will favor New Zealand as the Kiwis are currently playing a two-match Test series against hosts England.
According to Vengsarkar, ‘There is a talented player in the Indian team. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma These are the best cricketers in the world. But it is also important that other players also support them and you know that you cannot depend on just two players. If you are playing a Test match, then every player has to contribute his own.
The WTC final between India and New Zealand will be played in Southampton from June 18. After this, Team India will play a 5-match Test series against hosts England.
