Tokyo Olympics Countdown: Sai sacked Temo Kazarashvili, the foreign coach of the wrestling team, here’s the reason

New Delhi
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Friday announced that it has relieved Georgia-based wrestling coach Temo Kajarashvili. Temo was stripped of his medals because none of the Greco-Roman wrestlers qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.

India had appointed Temo till the Olympics in February 2019 to train the country’s Greco-Roman wrestlers at the national camp in Sonepat. Four male freestyle wrestlers and an equal number of female wrestlers have qualified for the Olympics, but the country did not get a single quota in the Greco-Roman category.

“As no Indian Greco-Roman wrestler has qualified for the Olympic Games, SAI has relieved foreign coach Temo Kajarashvili from his contract,” the Sports Authority of India (SAI) said in a statement.

According to this, ‘This decision has been taken after the recommendations of the Wrestling Federation of India. His contract with SAI was from February 2019 till the Olympics. Vinod Tomar, assistant secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India, defended the decision.

“We had appointed him exclusively for the Olympics but there was no result. His contract was till August this year but till then there is no national camp so what would he do now when the focus is on Tokyo Olympics so we told Sai that his services are not needed.

Tomar said that they will appoint new foreign coaches after the Olympics. The federation sacked Iran’s Hussein Karimi (freestyle) and US’s Andrew Cook (women’s) mid-term, saying it was difficult for them to raise tantrums.
