Actually, Amitabh Bachchan, who entered the electoral arena here, had to face defeat at the hands of the public.

Jaunpur defeated the candidate named Amitabh Bachchan in the election. Bachchan was a BSP-backed candidate. While Janata Yadav got 3131 votes, Amitabh Bachchan got 1998 votes. He lost by 1133 votes.

The glamor of Jaunpur panchayat elections did not prevail. District Panchayat member candidate Deeksha Singh has got a tough defeat. Deeksha Singh was contesting from ward number 26 in Jaunpur district. At the same time Urvashi Singh, a passout and London return from IIM, also lost.

According to the data released by the State Election Commission on Monday, on the basis of information received from all the districts of the state, 181 of the post of District Panchayat member, 2,32,612 candidates of Gram Panchayat member post, 38,317 in the post of Gram Panchayat Pradhan and the post of Kshetra Panchayat member. But 55,926 candidates were declared elected.

The counting of panchayat elections held in Uttar Pradesh in four phases last month began on Sunday morning and by 8 pm on Monday, 3,27,036 candidates for various posts were declared elected.
