In the three-tier panchayat elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party could not achieve the target of 80 per cent seats
The ruling party BJP and other parties were describing the panchayat election as a semi-final of the assembly election. According to sources, the rebellious attitude, preference for the choice of MLAs, lack of coordination between the organization and public representatives, the BJP missed the target. The BJP has received a setback in Meerut district, which is called the capital of West UP. Out of 33 wards, only six BJP-backed candidates won. Seven candidates of SP, nine of BSP and six of RLD candidates won.
There was a dent in Kalyan Singh’s stronghold
Even in Aligarh, the stronghold of former CM Kalyan Singh, BJP could not get the expected result. There are eight wards of Zilla Panchayat in Atrauli assembly constituency of Aligarh. Here BJP lost the election on seven wards, one won. In Muzaffarnagar, the BJP certainly saw some relief. Of the 43 seats of Zilla Panchayat here, BJP won 13, RLD 3, BSP 3, Azad Samaj Party 6 and others won 18 seats. SP’s account not opened here.
Shock to BJP everywhere
At the same time, in Bijnor, the SP and RLD alliance outpaced the BJP. The SP has got 20 seats, RLD three, Kisan candidate two, BSP 10 and BJP eight. The rest went to the account of independents. On the other hand, in Saharanpur, BSP won 18 and BJP 14. Congress jumped 13 seats. Many independents including Azad Samaj Party were also strong. Of the 19 seats in Shamli, the BJP was strong in four. RLD on five, SP on two and independents on the rest. Out of the twenty wards of Zilla Panchayat in Baghpat, RLD won on 8, BJP and SP on 4-4, BSP on one and Independents on three.
BSP became the largest party in Mathura
Talking about Mathura, the BSP has emerged as the largest party. BJP came second and RLD came third. SP got a seat. Independents won at three. Congress could not open account. Bareilly district panchayat’s SP-backed 18, BJP-backed 12, BSP-backed eight and Independents three won. Out of 47 seats of Shahjahanpur District Panchayat, BJP won 14 seats, SP on eight seats, BSP supported on seven seats. Independents dominated twenty.
