Veteran badminton player Prakash Padukone infected with corona, hospitalized


New Delhi
Former India veteran badminton player Prakash Padukone has been found corona infected. Padukone is currently recovering from the infection at a hospital in Bengaluru. 65-year-old Padukone, the first Indian to win the prestigious All England Championship in 1980, is expected to be discharged from the hospital this week.

Padukone, one of the most iconic players in world badminton, emerged as a role model for Indian sports in the 1970s and 1980s. Padukone became the first Indian to win a medal in this prestigious tournament with a bronze medal at the 1983 World Championships.

He became the first Indian to become the world’s number one player in 1980. He achieved this feat by winning three consecutive titles at the Denmark Open, All England Championships and the Swedish Open. Padukone was the president of the Badminton Association of India in 1991 after saying goodbye to the game. He was also the coach of the Indian team from 1993 to 1996.
